And we’re back. In our annual bumper issue edition. In this issue we try to capture the various different narratives revolving around Sexism & Gender theme. The more we were working on it, the more we felt that it is by no means an easy feat to capture the theme in its whole. Regardless we would like to present you our latest issue in our own small effort. We’re sorry there would be a little hike of the price this time around. It is still GST-free tho!

Bands interview:
DAILY RITUAL (Pasir Ris, Singapore)
SCUMRAID (Seoul, Korea)
XRDM (Ssabah, Borneo)
KW-13 (Bandung, Indonesia)

Interviews with Grrrls and many guest columnists (this time around dominated by female contributors)!
40++ regional and international music reviews plus the usual sections!

Please check out distros (link in the header above) nearby you and ask whether they carry this issue and they still have copies that you can get your hands on.

Distros/Wholesale purchase: Please contact TANDANG STORE (contact/details at Distro page, link above in header) as they are now our main distributor. Ask for the wholesale rate and help us distribute this in your respective town! International Orders are welcomed!

Calling for Ad placement soon! Local labels are very, very encouraged to place an ad with us, preferably with an exhaustive list of their release in this special issue documenting (a small portion of) Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia punk scene.

Cronies? Possibly. Without merit? Never.

We do not usually post event flyers here, except those that we organised for our magazine launch parties or maybe some benefit gigs here and there. It is because there are Facebook and other websites and blogs which are already doing that and there is no point reposting here again. Anyway, this is an exception though.

This is an event devoted especially for distros, zines and record labels. The usual unsung heroes usually working behind the ‘scene’. It’s organised by the prolific Prohibited Projects from Singapore. Details below.

New sections, new kind of paper, newer than new!

Limited release for now.

Contributors should be getting their copies by now. Distros can start taking orders. As of now, the sale to other ‘public’ member would start at gigs posted in the post before this (refer BELOW)- at discounted price together with your gig entry. If you could not attend, you can contact distros near you listed HERE.

You can also help us distro locally at your place! Contact us at shock(dot)awe00(at)gmail(dot)com.

*A short report would ensue in Shock&Awe! Issue #4. Don’t miss it!
** The video version will also be uploaded on Youtube, but not that soon. Keep tuning in.

Strong tradition needs not to be defended, but redefined and escalated to a new level. You shall not regret getting a copy of this historical release of our very own homeboys, The Garrison. It comes with lyrics not seen in Malaysia since Relationsheep (and of course, your band)- from bands who believe that music should transcend beyond entertainment consumption.

Here is a medley sample of what’s inside the CD:

Available now from local DIY distros and Ricecooker Shop. Demand your local distro to carry this, if they haven’t! Or you can order from the record label themselves directly:

Don’t miss this!

END cancelled few days before the show starts.
Blood on Wedding Dress cancelled few hours before the show starts.
To make it worse as it is, Yuen was also unable to make it due to some family affair.

Bummer.

Monkeys having a big problem now.
Fear and loathing in Bangsar (OK tomorrow in Tampin)
But quoting from one of the band that’s gonna play,

“Come on and get it. Don’t you wanna get it, get itt”

Pfft.
Let’s give it a fucking go then.

We were (wee bit) late due to traffic jams (ED: It’s a lie, he was making the tags last minute, AGAIN!) and the show started at 4.30 p.m as we can’t withstand the heavy pressure from the space owner. Carbon 4Teen took the stage first. These punk rock kids seems too busy to be bothered and butt hurt by my previous review of their release and pulled out an energetic performance. I bet they’re too busy to care in a bonafide punk rock fashion.

Artificial hairy punks, Pusher was next. Unlike the rest of the bands, this is the second time they played in Tampin. Their increasingly fat drummer manage to fall down and broke the chairs during their set (haha) but you know they won’t let you down. The only thing that is worth a complain for that particular day is their vocalist’s voice, which made me wonder if they accidentally change the vocalist to someone else (a screamo vocalist, maybe?). Lining up after that was the demo birthday boys, Gymnastic Skull Whistling waking Tampin up with their relentless power violence. In conjunction with this release party of their first demo, they pull out tight performances that we are sure won’t be letting the sales of Cactus Records down.

Just akin a commercial break, them subversive reggae boys (that didn’t sing about Jah, collie buddz or panjis) The Garrison was next and they turn the violent atmosphere to a relaxed and calm one. As they’re currently in the studios to record their full EP, I know many of you can’t wait to get your hands on it after witnessing how magical they are inducing the moshing crowd under their spell into a submissive intoxicated one.

Now there are only two bands left and everybody knows now it’s too late to be afraid. Post-punk darlings Killeur Calculateur took over the stage with a tremendous set. The crowd didn’t want them to stop! I know I might sound exaggerating but videos are here, just take a look at it. I bet they might be surprised too knowing how much Tampin loved them. And to end the show with a sweet note, we unleashed the fearsome four, our final weapon, Sarjan Hassan to conquer them all. They manage to play their regular set lists with an addition of two covers from Slayer and Motorhead as a bonus. Well, Man was a little more chatty than usual but disappoint, they did not.

And then it’s dark, it was late but everybody just can’t stop the madness.

Thankfully it’s Saturday. And we’re in love.

The show managed to gather RM800.00, which is a slight relief to us (cause we’re expecting to face loss and CEO cum Finance Manager YKL is not there). RM650 goes to Seventh Heaven, RM100 was divided by four and goes to 4 bands (RM25 each), 50 goes to cover misc costs i.e. tags, mineral water and cable ties. I guess this is transparent enough, yes?

Thanks Batu Pahat, Keningau, Kota Kinabalu, Ranau and Tampin for the memories so far.

Next we shall see ya; Temerloh? Sungai Petani? Taiping? Penang?

Big thanks to Aliansi Penendang Awan and crews for the alliance. (http://penendangawan.blogspot.com)
Big thanks to the awesome bands that spent a day for only RM 25.
Big thanks to the presence of other media in alliance Gogon TV, Shutterscream and Stagecandid (links below).
And ultra big thanks to you people who came to support.

Chaos is Tampin!

xoxo,
